You hand a member of the audience a nickel-plated brass tube (which has a small hole in its base) as well as four silver-coloured pins and one red pin. After the member of the audience has carefully examined everything, he or she is asked to put all the pins into the tube in any order, then close the tube with the lid and give it back to you. You now shake the closed tube above that person’s outstretched hand and the four silver-coloured pins drop out of the hole in the base one after another into the person’s hand.. Then you shake the tube above your own hand and out falls the last pin – the red pin. To prove that this wasn’t just luck, you can tell your audience beforehand in what sequence the pins will come out of the tube and even take bets that your prediction is right. There is no problem with repeating the trick several times. The last pin, the red one, is always yours.
